Buy Nikon Cameras Online and Save HUGE

September 19th, 2009

It’s vacation time! For most people, few things are more important to a vacation than taking pictures. After all’s been done, you’d want to have something to remember that great day at the lake when Junior fell in with his first catch or how Uncle Ted wore his shorts inside out at the beach.

The key to perfect vacation photos is, of course, being at the right place at the right time. And that timing is greatly helped by having a camera reliably on hand to capture those moments and everything in between.

For the vacationer who just wants to capture those memorable scenes, a small, compact handy camera is a great choice. A Nikon Coolpix camera is a very good choice. It’s compact to be handy, yet strong enough to capture those on-the-fly moments, even if you’re a good few yards away.

Whether you choose to get a new model or opt for a used Nikon camera, you’re still going to get great photos. You just need a few tips to keep in mind so that you can get the most out of your vacation.

Tip # 1: Invest in long life batteries.
Nothing’s worse than running out of juice at the most crucial times. So find high-capacity batteries that fits your camera. Go for lithium ion batteries as these now are the type with the biggest capacity. To help you save, invest a little more on rechargeable batteries, still lithium ion if your funds allows it. And when we say invest, we’re not just talking about money. Take the time to re-charge your batteries in between events. t’s also a good idea to keep an unopened pack of batteries in your camera bag as an emergency set, when your rechargeables expire. Remember to replace these with a new pack when you use them.

Tip # 2: Invest on the lenses.
Features like megapixels and zoom are very nice, but as it is with all things: garbage in-garbage out. When it comes to good cameras, lenses are where everything starts. If you can, purchase Nikon camera lenses to complement your existing camera. You will have greater options for taking really good pictures if you get an extra set of lenses, like a telephoto lens.

Tip # 3: Always invest in security.
Another huge vacation downer is when you lose your pictures – either because the camera got stolen, or because it got knocked over damaging the camera. Prevent these by investing in good, secure camera bags when you purchase a Nikon digital camera. Several manufacturers make bags that can be customized to fit not just the camera, but other peripherals as well like extra lenses, flash sets and batteries.

In addition to that, find a strong, sturdy lanyard that can be attached to your camera and can be worn around your neck or slung around your shoulders. Having the camera secure to your body not only prevents the camera from, say, falling into the water, it also helps prevent the camera from being snatched from you.

Digital Cameras Kill Off Polaroid

It may depend upon your age, but I certainly am old enough to remember how thrilling it was to huddle around a Polaroid snapshot whilst it was developing. You never really knew how it would turn out until the image had taken shape right there in front of your eyes. When the process was finished, you had a picture, often with slightly varied colours, which had no negative, and was, let’s be honest, a bit pricey.

Today, as a result of the dominance of digital cameras, Polaroid is just not instant enough. The cameras ceased production some time ago and the last films rolled out in January of 2009. It’s easy to see why if you consider the following statistics?

2000 Sales
Polaroid cameras 4.2 million
Digital cameras 4.5 million

2007 Sales
Polaroid cameras 240 thousand
Digital cameras 28.2 million

With sales figures like that it’s no wonder the Polaroid camera is being withdrawn.

However, the Polaroid had obtained an iconic status over time, so it’s hardly surprising to learn that groups of enthusiasts have set up campaigns to “save Polaroid”. There are hopes that some “white knight” will take over the production of the film and manufacture this under licence. In the meantime, in a slightly ironic twist, both films and cameras are changing hands on EBay at hugely inflated prices. It’s not out of the question that, if Polaroid themselves had been able to command these types of prices levels then they wouldn’t have needed to file for Chapter 11 just a few short years ago.

Looking forward, Polaroid have entered the digital age by producing a combined digital camera and printer which uses a heat activated dye to produce a printed image in around about a minute.

The camera, dubbed the “PoGo”, has a three inch LCD screen for checking your photos before printing. Considering that the special printer paper will cost around $13 for enough to produce 30 photos you’ll want to be sure that you’ve got a “keeper” before you hit the print button.Polaroid believe that it will appeal to law enforcement officers and customs staff who may require an immediate hard copy of identity photographs. Only time will tell.

Lighting Tips to Help You Take Better Pictures

In this age of digital cameras, you have probably thought that you can just point and shoot and out will appear a great shot.Hold on, don’t go so fast. The honest truth is, you may have a great digital camera, but if you are clueless in what to do, you will take ugly shots.

Well, I would like to share with you some great tips on improving your digital photography skills.  These tips are coming from years of experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. These tips are all about the lighting and they will some of biggest reasons for you success in taking photographs.

First great tip in regards to lighting. Now if the shots you will take are going to be outdoors during the day, the natural sunlight will be some of the best lighting possible.  Now you are probably thinking, “that’s easy, when you are a San Diego photographer since it is always shiny there”, when in actuality really bright sunlight can cast harsh shadows.Or it could blur the details of faces when the sun is overhead.

Overall, what you will want to do is to have the sun behind you when you take most of the shots.  This prevents the harsh shadows that can be caused by the sun. There will be some times when you want to take shots from different angles when you do try to get some shadows into the shots.

Now that we know what to do during the day shots, what if you have to take some night shots?

The key technique for night photos is actually turning off your flash.  Of course if it is pitch black you will need it, but for times when there is lighting, you want to use the lighting that is around, but you have to make sure you set your shutter speeds slower to let in enough light.  Also you want to stay steady when taking the shot or you will blur the photos.  Doing these couple of tricks can make a dramatic difference when taking night shots.

The third and final tip with using lighting to capture great photos is the golden hour.  There is something photographers call the “golden hour” or magic hour, and that time is sunrise and sunset.

During these times of the day you will capture great shots that allow you to capture more warmer and inviting colors. You’ll be able to get that golden lighting that isn’t available during any other time of day.

There you have it.  Probably the biggest key in taking greatshots is to make sure you take advantage of the natural lighting.  Knowing what techniques to use for different parts of the day, or just scheduling a photo shoots to capture those times of day will help you become an excellent photographer.
