For many, the reasons for cleaning Windows XP registry are unclear, this articles gives an overview of them and outline practical steps that users can follow

Introduction to Windows XP registry -Windows XP registry is a core component of PCs. PC user should clean Windows XP registry regularly. Due to its functions, the registry can be viewed as the heart soul and mind of Windows. The registry is used by Windows XP to store the devices and file associations of the computer. Registry is also used to store critical information on directories, drivers, Windows applications and much more. Unless you are very familiar with Windows XP operating system, you should use a registry cleaner software instead of cleaning the registry manually.

Take a backup - When carrying out the process to clean windows XP registry, it is possible to make the entire system inoperable. Hence you should ensure that you take a backup. Fortunately users can now choose from several proven registry fix software. These tools can find the potentially questionable or unused references, and they prompt the user to review any entry that may cause a problem once removed.

Start menu - To begin cleaning Windows XP Registry manually, go to the start menu, and click on run. Type “regedit” in the text field, and press enter.

HKEY sections - Windows XP registry has many different entries separated in sections namely HKEY_CURRENT_USER, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, HKEY_USERS, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and HKEY_CURRENT CONFIG. There are different entries in each section, which are related to various aspects of Windows XP operation. Click on the + symbol to clean XP Registry. You will see the plus sign next to the root directory. This operation will expand a more detailed list, additional directories to select from in this section will appear and this will make it easier, for you to find the entries needed to clean up the registry.

Entries causing conflicts - Next step to clean Windows XP registry is to erase the entries which are causing conflicts or are no longer required, such as redundant ActiveX components for example (click on repair activex for more information)

Clean boot records - It is also advisable to clean the boot records. This can be done easily by changing the list of programs that load when the system starts up. Open the CURRENT_USER and LOCAL_MACHINE directories until you notice the “Run|” and “Run Once” options. Redundant entries, such as those which trigger computer programs at start-up can then be removed.

Twice a year clean – In order to drive high computer performance, users should clean their registry every six months. This clears items which are redundant. Machines which are extremely slow usually have a large number of software, or those where drivers are constantly being installed and uninstalled, require more frequent cleanups (click on computer extremely slow for more information).

However tempting a manual clean or repair may be, remember that, using the appropriate registry cleaner to repair windows XP registry is usually a superior solution than attempting this manually . Many programs will also improve the system performance, some also have backup capabilities to safeguard your files.

How to speed up your computer in less than 15 minutes?

August 12th, 2009
how to make my computer faster

how to make my computer faster

There are many ways to optimize a computer and this article covers simple steps to make any computer faster quickly. Implementing either of the first two steps in this article should take less than 15 minutes using a PC or Mac.

Step 1 -  Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. The registry is comparable to a nervous system. Its main function is to connect software hardware and computer files. Over time, errors occur and this slows down computers, frequently their registry become corrupted. Locating then fixing errors in the registry is therefore frequently required. Users can in theory attempt a manual cleanup of the registry, however this is not recommended due to the high likelihood of further errors occuring. Registry cleaner software are a faster, more reliable alternative to remove errors, unused file, poor links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on compare registry fix software for more information.

Step 2 – Delete and block adware and spyware

Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. Often, this takes place when peer to peer (P2P) networks are used to download videos and music for example. A straightforward solution to improve the speed of any computer is to use an anti spyware or adware program to scan, remove then block adware and spyware. In order to try out the right anti spyware or adware program, it is preferable to use a trial version which is usually free. Among the key features to consider are Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service, and of course the overall effectiveness of the software. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Click on best adware spyware removal for more information.

Step 3 – Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. Computer viruses must be deleted for two reasons, firstly they often damage files, secondly they tend to waste memory and disk space. In order to overcome these problems, as well as optimise performance, users should run the latest version of the best anti-virus programs. In the end, they will also be in a stronger position to improve their computer performance.

Step 4 – Simple housekeeping tasks

There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed.  Another simple step to improve computer speed is to stop programs launching automatically. Marginal improvements usually result from these simple tasks.

Step 5 – Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. The amount of free space on the hard drive is a key factor of performance as it is used by temporary files needed by software to run. This is also used for swapping files when the operating system needs to use virtual memory as it runs out of RAM. The system can slow down significantly in that event, if space on the hard disk is insufficient. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows , can also help check for errors on the hard disk itself. For instance, your hard disk may be large enough but too fragmented and some disk sectors may have been damaged. Using a defragmentation program will also improve any computer’s speed.

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This means that other programs have less memory to run. Computers frequently run out of RAM after a while. In order to overcome this, ugrading the RAM is probably necessary. Another free option is to avoid using some computer programs simultaneously.

Step 7 – Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. The best solution is often to replace the fan, this overcomes the problem by increasing the air flow through the computer thereby reducing its temperature and ultimately improving reponse times.

Registry Fix V7.1! Good, Bad Or Indifferent?

July 16th, 2009
fix registry errors

fix registry errors

The increasing range of computer threats and their negative impact on computer performance, is leading to greater intensity in competition between registry repair software vendors. In this article we share the outcome of one of the latest Registry Fix reviews. Tests were carried out by our testing team (Click on registry fix review for more information).

In the main, Registry Fix has been one of the most popular solution Clickbank (largest digital market place), and achieved over 13 million downloads. We wanted to establish if Registry V7.1 was actually as good as the software vendors make it.

Our conclusions are based upon our independent tests, which covered scanning, detecting, resolving registry errors, and optimising computer performance, with a focus on the most common errors: Missing startup programs, invalid device drivers, invalid application paths, missing dll files, missing help files, missing system fonts, ActiveX component errors and other common causes of registry corruption.

In excess of 13 million downloads to date, now we understand why! We installed  Registry Fix on computers, with the following characteristics which are representative of many computers today: The computers were already equipped with anti-virus software as this tends to minimise the large volume of registry errors which can be caused by viruses, trojan and worms over time. Each computer had been in service for a period ranging from between 10 and 12 months, and from a software standpoint, each computer had had in the region of 25 additional software installed on them and in the region of 15 removed programs since they were first used.

In one of our test alone, Registry Fix actually uncovered 731 problems with the computer registry. Our testers drew attention to the fact that, one advantage of Registry Fix is that it resolves much more than a few errors and that it had great capability in optimising computer performance. (Click on registry fix review for more information).

During the Registry Fix review our testers verified that the free Trial Version Actually Solves Problems Too - Registry Fix trial version can resolve up to 45 problems. This feature surpasses many of the solutions offered by the competition, which frequently offer to scan the registry for free, yet do not allow users to resolve problems unless they buy the full version.

The statement that “Registry Fix repair problems in 1 Click” is actually true - The most common challenge after finding Registry errors,  is usually to establish what caused them. In the absence of software, the only alternative is to sift through the registry line by line. Trying to repair the 731 problems could not have been done manually. Our testers used the “Repair Problems” button instead, and Registry Fix quickly solved the errors which had been detected by the scan. Very quickly, Registry Fix completed the scan of the registries and resolved the root causes of errors.

Registry Fix V7.1 remain affordable for most users. The trial version is free and the single user licence only costs $37 for the basic package.

Registry Fix V7.1 solves many other problems too - Our tester were impressed by the fact that Registry Fix V7also fixes a lot more than just a few problems.Registry Fix can either run at pre-set times of ad-hoc. The automatic backup functionality means that users should minimize the risk of losing files, even when faced with serious computer problems.

Conclusion -Registry Fix V7.1 is truly an excellent piece of software amongst other popular solutions on Clickbank. Click on registry fix review for additional information.
