Basics of Spyware

Spyware is a kind of computer threat that is not yet covered by common applications that concentrate solely on viruses. Spyware silently keeps track of all websites that you search in order to create a marketing profile to send your online history back to the makers of the spyware, who will then, for a profit sell the information to marketing strategy firms who will then be able to form a better ad campaign. Spyware is corrupt, and an easy way for computer experts to make money. One of the worst homepage hijackers in history was CoolWebSearch, whose main purpose was to transform your web browser into one enormous advertisement tool for junk products.

Spyware Symptoms:

But wait—how will you know if there actually is any Spyware on your computer? The first sign that your computer has spyware is when, as soon as the Internet browser opens, a million pop-up advertisements appear on your screen. Perhaps your Web browser’s home page has changed. Another sign occurs when you find pages that have somehow been unexpectedly added to your Favorites folder. The worst side-effect of spyware may happen when you are not at all able to run a program, or get directly linked to another site. All kinds of spyware can drastically slow down your PC’s performance and share confidential information with computer hijackers, who never go easy on anyone’s computer. One of the worst homepage hijackers in history was CoolWebSearch, whose main purpose was to turn your entire web browser into an advertisement tool for junk products.

If you do not see any of these symptoms though, there is still a good chance that your computer may be infected, because every day, more and more spyware is made. If you are having problems with too much spyware, though, there is definitely anti-spyware software available.

Anti-spyware software:

There are ways to fight against spyware infecting your computer. Some Internet Service Providers include anti-spyware software in the computer service packages. Anti-spyware software can also be downloaded for free. Norton Anti-Virus tells that it is the “Winning protection against viruses, spyware, & other malicious software.” Still, this protection costs $39.99 to $134.99.

However, this protection costs $39.99 to $134.99. Still, there is software that you can download for free. For example, if you have Windows XP SP2, you can download Windows Defender. Simply run the tool to scan for unwanted spyware, and then review to make sure nothing important has been included.

The only trick to downloading this “free” anti-spyware software is that in no time it will ask you to pay to keep protecting your computer from spyware.

Overview: If a computer is running too slow, if pop-up advertisements are covering the screen, or if the home page is no longer the same, there is a good chance that spyware is infiltrating your computer. Fortunately, there is a lot of software out there than can clean up your computer.
