With prices of digital cameras continuing to fall, it seems the right thing to do: Toss the broken camera and buy a new one, right? Malaysia? Hong Kong? Taiwan? China? Even some high rated Japanese companies are enticed with the low prices in China. With little or no exception, if your digital camera was manufactured in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan, then its time to sprinkle some dust on it, and say a few words. RIP!

Is your camera among the top brand names, like Canon, Sony, Nikon, or Panasonic? Can you balance your camera, without batteries, on your pinky finger? Also, what is your camera worth? Many times a camera is worth quite a bit more, if its in excellent cosmetic condition.

Bottom Line

If your digital camera is a top brand, and is not made in the China, and is currently worth $150.00 or more, then it would be wise to at least consider having your camera repaired. To find an online repair shop for your particular brand of camera, simply take the brand and model of your camera and the word “repair”, and type it into your browser.

Common Camera Mistakes, Problems and Myths (And Several Fixes too!)

Executive Summary about Digital Camera Repair by Eric A Suchon

“My Camera only has enough battery life for 5 shots and it dies. Many times working retail, I would have an irate customer about his/her digital camera, and all we had to do was swap these batteries out for actual digital camera batteries, or even the lithium batteries.

Scratches. There are many cameras that also have a habit of scratching/blemishing pretty easily. Generally an LCD replacement is cheaper than buying a new camera (as opposed to a new lens – that gets expensive!). We have multiple model of Canon cameras available for repair or replacement, depending on your comfort level with the inside of a camera!

Compatible drivers and software. About 2 years ago they changed their storage mechanics on their semi-proprietary memory card format, the xD card. This card changed to an xD m format, which was compatible will all new cameras. There were a few dozen cameras that had a high enough firmware version that could be upgraded to work as well, but the oldest cameras were incompatible with the new format. Of course the store I worked for immediately phased out the old card, and anyone with an older camera was our of luck. Buying more camera than you need -This one is tricky, as everyone is different. One beautiful thing with digital cameras is the flexibility and versatility they have. If you are just getting into photography, all you need really is a basic point and shoot camera, with a zoom lens, and playback, movie and shoot mode.
