The Sat Nav can be useful if you are on you way into another country. Sometimes it can be nice to hear directions from a person who speaks english when you are abroad and providing it points you in the right direction it can be useful for that.

Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Of course you could get gadget insurance as this actually sets out to cover you against other things like phones and games consoles. We never think it will happen to us, and then it does. In my case this has happened twice. I am, of course, talking about losing my mobile phone.

Is there a moral to this tale? Maybe a small one. But I recommend that you routinely backup all of the contact details stored on your phone and get yourself some insurance cover.
